Solved: pppoe multilink

Dear Experts,

I have 2 location connected with 2 Mbps Serial Interface & 100 Mbps Fastethernet Interface. I am trying to Bundle these 2 Interface.

I am trying to configure Multilink PPP with a serial Interface & FastEthernet Interface. Since PPP Multilink is not supported in Fastethernet, I thought of configuring PPPOE in Fastethernet.

I created Dialer Interface for PPPoE and trying to assign "PPP MULTILINK GROUP 1". I am getting the error message "MULTILINK INTERFACE IS NOT SUPPORTED IN DIALER INTERFACE"

Please guide me whether this approach is practically possible and if yes, what is the procedure.

The answer is negative as it was before. RFC2516 that defines PPPoE does not mention multilink (you cannot find the word multilink in the RFC)

you can use CEF load balancing over two PPPoE indipendent connections

As the router is telling you, it is not possible to do that.

If you really want multilink, buy two routers that connects directly to the E1 links.

Hello Sairam,

use the FE link as primary and the serial interface as backup.

If you really want to use the 2Mbps use specific static routes or PBR to put some traffic over it ( on both sides)

multilink PPP has been thought for links of equal speeds ( 64 Kbps B channels or serial interfaces of same speed), how could it deal with two links with 50 ratio in speed?

Thanks for your reply. Yes I too understood this limitation. Ofcourse while applying various thoughts another interesting scenario came across.

What is the way to BUNDLE TWO PPPOE LINKS TERMINATED ON THE SAME ROUTER (EG. CISCO 1841) ?. Is it possible to bundle to PPPOE Links as we do on serial interface with ppp encapsulation
