Hi All;

One of our customer is asking to integrate CCM 5.1 with the Active Directory, actually I do not know what exactly the main benifit of this if any one can advise the kind of benifits and business for such thing.

Also, where I can find a documentation on how to do this and the requirements.

Regards

Bilal

If you integrate your CUCM 5.1 with AD the main benefit that you will have its that all of the users and user information will be store in you AD instead of been store in you CUCM. Also you could do the authentication in the AD as well so all the passwords will be there.

You could find more information about this in the CIPT I book or in the follow link:

Thanks a lot for ur kindly answer.

This is to do the active directory integration from the call manager, but what if I need to build a directory to use this active directory integration?

What do you mean "build a directory to use this active directory integration"?

Active Directory usually pre-exists in the company.  You don't have to build it as a CCM integrator.

I mean, after configuring the integration between the Call Manager and the Active Directory, so the users with their profiles will be available in the Call Manager, correct?

The question now: what the benifits of this thing? I heared that I can use this to have a directory in the IP Phones (this directory can be accessed by the Directory button in the exist to look for the users in the network), how to do this directory using the integration that I did between the Call Manager and the Active Directory?

Thanks for your kindly reply and help.

Hi

Yes, when you integrate to AD, the users from AD will appear in the CallManager End Users page.

The benefits of this are really just:

- Consistency of the synchronized properties (names, department, phone number) between AD and CCM

- Single (AD-authenticated) password for logon to applications, CCM User etc (PIN is still based and managed in CCM)

You still need to configure handsets, associations of handsets to users, groups etc within CCM itself, so it's not a very advanced integration.

You get a directory ('Corporate Directory') as standard with CCM, this searches the users you have added to the End Users page in CCM. If you integrate to AD, it still searches the End Users, but as these are synced from AD, it effectively searches the AD users. You don't need to do anything in particular to get this working.
