I'm trying to get faxing to work on Unity VM but not sure where to really start.  Currently we an Octel system that whenever a user receives a fax, it leaves a VM on their phone telling them that they have one new fax, and it gives instructions on which fax machine to send it to.  Can Unity VM do this kind of thing.  Can someone help me with documentation?

You are not going to get feature parity between Octel and Unity or Unity Connection as far as faxing goes.  For Unity, the first tool you can use is called FaxUtil.  You can read about it on  It's not really meant to scale past 50 users but it does provide some built-in fax capability.  However, in order to do single number fax/vmail inbox - it involves doing an onramp configuration and running a TCL script on your gateways that are going to handle fax calls.  If you don't mind having separate number/mailbox setup - then maybe this will do what you want.  Read up on it and see what you think.  This is not scalable IMO in an enterprise deployment.  However, Unity does allow you to integrate with a wide array of fax servers so you may look at that as a way to get the features you need along with scalability as well.

Probably not the answer you wanted to hear - but it's an honest one.
