Hi everyone
We´re currently refreshing our network infrastructure by purchasing a new 6509 chassis with Giga blades.
In fact, We already have one 6509 running properly with 2 Sup 720 ( active-standby).
Our idea is about to take one Sup ( standby) off from current chassis and insert it into the new one purchased.
(unfortunatelly, No budget to buy additional Sup´s)
Both chassis are going to be connected with 2-4 FO trunks between them using etherchannel capabilities.
Supposing this scenario:
Blades - Sup 720 - Chassis "A" <=======> Chassis "B" - Sup 720 - Blades
the question is:
Can Supervisor of chassis "A" take care of Giga blades of Chassis "B" in case of fail of Sup "B"?
If it is, we would like to know how to configure it.
Thanks a lot in advance,
CK

Hi CK,
Can Supervisor of chassis "A" take care of Giga blades of Chassis "B" in case of fail of Sup "B"?
No, when the Sup is dead the entire switch including all the line cards on that switch are dead.
You could use VSS which provides switch redundancy without using STP, VRRP or HSRP but even in a VSS environment when one of the switches is dead all the line cards are gone too that is why it is recommend to connect end devices e.g servers with 2 NICs to 2 different switches. This will provide switch redundancy and NIC redundancy
