Is there a way to find out how long a switchport has been down for? Is it possible to find out using CLI?

Hi,

I've one command and you can also try that. I use this to find out how long the switch port was down using the key word mentioned in the show interface .

SW-***-226#sh int fa3/0/12
FastEthernet3/0/12 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect)
Hardware is Fast Ethernet, address is 001d.464b.1e8e (bia 001d.464b.1e8e)
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,
     reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
  Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
  Keepalive set (10 sec)
  Full-duplex, 100Mb/s, media type is 10/100BaseTX
input flow-control is off, output flow-control is unsupported
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
Last input 6w6d, output 00:01:16, output hang never  ---- This switch port was down for 1 minute and 16 sec
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0
  Queueing strategy: fifo
  Output queue: 0/40 (size/max)
  5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
  5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
251840614 packets input, 80100244231 bytes, 0 no buffer
     Received 373073 broadcasts (0 multicasts)
     0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
     54245 input errors, 54243 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored
     0 watchdog, 154250 multicast, 0 pause input
0 input packets with dribble condition detected
     422495720 packets output, 245309822100 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 3 interface resets
     0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred
0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier, 0 PAUSE output
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out
SW-****-226#

But once the port comes up the output 00:01:16 will set to 00:00:01 depends upon switching frames/time

Thanks,

ThiyaguVG.

Depends on the model of your appliance.  Otherwise, you'll have to use SNMP.

Hi,

As suggested the best way is to have snmp of the switch,so that you can have historical events also of the switch port.for immediate assitanct use PRTG freeware with 10 sensors and check the events of the ports which your monitroing.

Hope to Help !!
