VSS. Line Cards and Service Modules Removal

Greetings,

I have two VSS (virtual Switch System) deployed in my network, one for the Core and one for the Data Center. I need to remove two line cards ( WS-X6748-GE-TX) and one service module ( WS-SVC-NAM-2) from the Core VSS, and install these modules on the Data Center VSS.

My question is: Is there a specific procedure for removing and installing the modules mentioned above for the VSS?

I have the procedures for the 6500 Switch as stand alone but not for the VSS.

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi,

The procedure is the same for VSS and none VSS devices.  Just make sure you do this after hours in an outage window

slot 2 slot-type 284 port-type 60 number 16  virtual-slot 18
slot 3 slot-type 156 port-type 31 number 24  virtual-slot 19
slot 4 slot-type 95 port-type 30 number 8  virtual-slot 20
slot 5 slot-type 254 port-type 31 number 2 port-type 61 number 1 port-type 60 number 2  virtual-slot 21
!
module provision switch 2
slot 1 slot-type 147 port-type 61 number 48  virtual-slot 33
slot 2 slot-type 284 port-type 60 number 16  virtual-slot 34
slot 3 slot-type 156 port-type 31 number 24  virtual-slot 35
slot 4 slot-type 95 port-type 30 number 8  virtual-slot 36
slot 5 slot-type 254 port-type 31 number 2 port-type 61 number 1 port-type 60 number 2  virtual-slot 37

Is the provision for the module cleared automaticly after I remove the module? or i have to clear it manually?.

Hi,

After you remove the modules you have to clear it manually.

Hi,

Do you need to reload the entire VSS pair after doing the "no slot" under "module provision switch" commands?

Thank you,

Joe
