Enabling Jumbo frame on Cat OS ports

Could anyone explain why this is happening?

ABCD-SJ-6500-1> (enable) set port jumbo 6/27 enable

Do you want to modify the following ports: 6/25-32 are you sure(y/n) [n]?n

ABCD-SJ-6500-1> (enable)

P.S. - All ports between 6/25 - 32 are on different vlans and etherchannel, so not sure why its asking 6/25 - 32?
Thanks!

Its on module 6, details below:

Mod Slot Ports Module-Type               Model               Sub Status

--- ---- ----- ------------------------- ------------------- --- --------

1   1    2     1000BaseX Supervisor      WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE    yes ok

6   6    48    10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet WS-X6548-GE-TX      no  ok

According to the release notes this is how the 6548 module is broken down -

Number of ports: 48
Number of port groups: 2
Port ranges per port group: 1-24, 25-48

The aggregate bandwidth of each set of 8 ports (1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, 33-40, and 41-48) is 1 Gbps.

So it's not the port group but each set of 8 ports has one ASIC and i suspect this is what you are seeing.

I suspect this is to do with port groupings on the module. The same happens when you apply a QOS policy to one port ie. the PFC then applies it to all ports in the port group.

What module is it ?

Jon

Its on module 6, details below:

Mod Slot Ports Module-Type               Model               Sub Status

--- ---- ----- ------------------------- ------------------- --- --------

1   1    2     1000BaseX Supervisor      WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE    yes ok

6   6    48    10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet WS-X6548-GE-TX      no  ok

That seems right, I tried couple of port on other 8 bundle as well and same thing happens. Thanks so much. One quick ques though - do you think this problem would get solved if we migrate from Cat OS to IOS?

No it wouldn't make any difference upgrading to IOS as it is to do with how the PFC implements configuration on the modules.

Jon

As the PFC sits on SUP, so will it help if I upgrade the current SUP 1A to SUP II? Or do you recommend upgrading the ws-x6548-ge-tx line card?

Thanks again!

Jon pointed it correctly and also link shared below states that

jumbo frames should be enabled on all or none of the ports in a particular VLAN
