2651 router upgrade failure - not enough space

I have c2600-i-mz.123-26.bin running. If I attempt to upgrade to it IP Plus version I get the following:

Erasing device... eeeeeeeee ...NOT erased

Erase of flash: complete

loading c2600-is-mz.123-26.bin: !!!!!!

%Error copying flash:c2600-is-mz.123-26.bin (No space left on device)

The requirement for this IOS is 32MB, which I have, but it doesn't seem to work properly.

I tried to squeeze the flash, but get the following:

First create squeeze log by erasing the entire device -NOT SURE HOW TO DO THIS WITH A PRODUCTION ROUTER-

%Error squeezing flash (Missing or corrupted log)

Is the memory bad? Why the NOT erased message?

Any assistance would be appreciated!

To be on the safe side, you might want to back up your configs before you decide to format. Most important rule to be followed with Networking devices.

Cisco does not store config on flash.

Flash might be faulty.

Try formatting the flash card and if it gives you error, then try to remove and reinsert it (flash card are hot swappable).

After you have re-inserted flash card, again try to format it. If it still gives you error; probably flash card might be faulty.

And if it doesn't gives you error, VOILA.. u got your flash clean. Time to upgrade it with the new IOS.

Incorrect, 2600 routers except 2691, have internal flash module, not CF.

Squeeze flash results in the following error: %Error squeezing flash (Missing or corrupted log)

Format flash is invalid on this device.

Erase flash produces the NOT ERASED message.

The flash is internal on this unit. I'm assuming it's not hot swapable.

Thoughts?

Open router and replace flash.

Or replace entire router that is very old anyway.

Sugegst you try loading the image from xmodem(console). this will automatically erase the flash and load image but your router would be down atleast for an hour at a speed of 115200.

check flash space with command 'Router#show flash' http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1834/products_tech_note09186a00800fb9d9.shtml
Follow steps Refer http://www.ciscopros.info/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/configfun/configuration/guide/fcf006_ps1835_TSD_Products_Configuration_Guide_Chapter.html
- Delete unwanted files in flash partition -- delete command
- Erase files from Flash Partition - Erase command
- Format - to complete cleanup the flash data

This will help you to check how many flash partitions you have, are there any unwanted files in the flash dir and facilitate for clearing the space.

I'm assuming the flash is bad. I've ordered a replacement module to try. I'd rather not replace a router that is 100% reliable.
