Cisco IOS version for 3550 and 3560 that support IPv6

Answered Question

Can somone tell me what are the first versions of the IOS for the 3550 and 3560 that support IPv6.  Currently my 3550's are running IOS (tm) C3550 Software (C3550-I9Q3L2-M), Version 12.1(20)EA1a, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) and my 3560's are running Cisco IOS Software, C3560 Software (C3560-IPBASE-M), Version 12.2(25)SEE1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

One other question I have is are the EMI versions of code for these two switches the only ones that support IPv6?

Thanks a ton,

APPmanDAN

I have this problem too.

Hi Dan,

You need 12.2SE

The 12.2SE Cisco IOS release train consists of the Cisco Catalyst 3560, 3750, 3560E, and 3750E series.

Have a look at this link:

Just to add to Reza's post. The 3550 will support IPv6 but it is not supported in hardware unlike the 3560/3750 switches. There is no sdm template for ipv6 on the 3550 so it's not recommended to run that in production.

Dan,

You also need IP Services license to run IPv6 on your 3560s.

Thanks for all the info, it is most helpful.  I admit my understanding of IPv6 design aren't where they need to be.  One other question I have pertains to VLANs.  We are in the design phases of changing our network, but at this moment we have a layer 2 network, meaning we do our VLAN routing at the core and connect our remote sites to the core via trunks.  The initial functionality that would be needed would be able to assign an IPv6 address to the 3550s/3560s for management and the ability to pass IPv6 via a trunk.  Would you need the IP services license on the 3560s if they are functioning as a strict layer 2 device?

Thanks again for the help!

Dan
