Solved: Cisco stackwise assistance

Hello,

We currently have 3 switches in a stack.

switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-48ts
switch 2 provision ws-c3750g-24ts
switch 3 provision ws-c3750g-48ts

3750G1#show switch detail

Right now I have switch 4 configured as:

switch 4 provision ws-c3750g-24ts

Is that all that is needed and then just cable it in the same pattern?

If you want to set the switches priority you can use the command: switch priority in global

While I've never done a hot swap of cables while the switches were live I believe you can do so. In the past I've always just powered them down to do so. I'm sure someone could provide better guidance on that than me.

From what I know, the cables can be swapped. If the whole stack isn't rebooted, then a reelection shouldn't occur as long as the master isn't rebooted. You can set your master by priority number like

switch 3 priority 15 (0 - 15 are valid)

My switch master is 2. The priority is 15. If my stack reboots, my switch 2 will always come back up as master. On a side note, I've always shut my switch down that I was connecting the new cable to, to be on the safe side. =)

Should be. Make sure the switch that you're adding has the same IOS on it. I would set a window and downtime to add the switch to the stack. It may start negotiating for a stack master and bring the switch stack down until that happens.

Hi John,

Are the cables hot swappable?

And how can I set the priorites of the switches so that there is no election and that the configuration won't change?
