4948 port question

Hi, I never configured a 4948, so I have a question or 2.

Does the 4948 come with the 4 SFP ports as an option or do they always come with the other 48 10/100/1000 ports? I'd like to use the 48 ports for servers and the 4 SFPs for uplinks

I got this from the Cisco website, too...

"¹The Cisco Catalyst 4948 has 52 physical switching ports (48 10/100/1000 and 4 SFP) on the front panel. Up to 48 of these ports can be active at one time in any combination."

So, part 2 of my question is that, if you do have the 4 extra sfp ports, can you use them on top of the other 48?

I know what the Cisco footnote says, but I want someone with practical experience with the 4948.

You can only use 48 ports of the 52 available. The 4 SFP ports are there is you want to use fibre for your uplinks but if you use these then 4 of the 48 RJ45 ports are no longer useable.

Basically you get either 48 RJ45 ports or some combination of 44-48/1 - 4 SFP ports.

OK, great..that swhat I wanted to make sure of....

But do those sfp ports use a different port nomenclature?

for example, the first 48 rj 45s are g1/1 - gi1/48....what are the sfps then? Or is it a case where its just 1-48 no matter what combination of ports you use.....?

52 physical ports on the switch. The last 8 ports are both labelled as interfaces gi1/45 - gi1/48.

Ports gi1/1 - 44 are rj45 ports. You then have the option to use either the other 4 rj45 ports which would be gi1/45 - 48 or to use the 4 SFP ports which would be gi1/45 - 48. That's fine because you can't use both the last 4 rj45 ports and the 4 sfp ports so there will be no overlapping in interface numbering.
