Can a single router eth interface with multiple ips route to itself ?

HI guys,

Lets say I have a router with eth0.

I have a switch pluged to it.

eth0 has 2 ip addresses assigned to it 192.168.1.1 and 172.16.1.1

clients in the switch in subnet 192.168.1.x have DG of the router IP 192.168.1.1.

someone from 192.168.1.x wants to reach another PC plugged to the switch in 172.16.1.x subnet.

is it possible for the router to route back to it's original interface?

Hi Dan,

Yes, it is call router on a stick. You create one sub-interface for 192.168.1.0 subnet and another one for 172.16.1.0 subnet and do .1q tagging on the router interface with 2 different vlan on the switch.
