Hello  All,

I am trying to do a software update on my WAAS Central Manage (Version: 4.1.1c). However from the cisco docuemnetation I came across following please see the link  ( http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v415/release/notes/ws415xrn.html#wp72524 ) .

I need your help  for the following :

->  How can I  take the WAAS devices offline so that I can do the Upgrades.( in this case the WAN will be working without the WAAS device).

->  Once the  Upgrades have been completed How can I unable this WAAS devices again in production .

Thank in Advance for your help.

Hi Soofi,

The way you take a WAAS device out of service depends on the interception method you are using.  For inline interception, you can shutdown the InlineGroup to put the interface in bypass operating mode.  For WCCP interception, you can disable WCCP on the WAAS device with the config mode command no wccp version 2.  Once you have completed the upgrade, you simply do the opposite (no shut the InlineGroup or re-enable WCCP) to bring the device back in service.

Remember to upgrade the Central Manager first, prior to upgrading any of the devices running as accelerators.

Zach

Hi  Zach :

Thanks a lot ,

->  Is there any way that I can check  as to which service is in use " inline interception or WCCP "

->  While going down will be there any  service  disruption ?

->  Finally , Is there any changes that has to be made on  " core switch " to which the WAAS is connected ?

Or if came across better solution please do let me know.

Thanks

It's fixed in the 4.1.5f release.  See the following thread:

Under the Device Info in the Central Manager the Interception Method is listed.

->  While going down will be  there any  service  disruption ?

For optimized connections, yes.  When you put an InlineGroup into bypass operating mode, it stops intercepting traffic for optimization.  Existing optimized connections will be reset..  WCCP does a better job of graceful shutdown.  If there are optimized connections established, WCCP will start a timer and check at the expiration of that timer to see if the number of connections has decreased.  If it has, the timer is reset, and the check is performed again when the timer expires.  This continues until the number of connections is no longer decreasing, at which points the WCCP services are terminated and the remaining connections are reset.

No, there are not.

Zach

Zack Thanks for all the help ...

To confirm:

1.  I will telnet  on to the WAAS Manager thru CLI

  2. log into the Config mode

  3. Use the command " no wccp version 2 "

At this point of time the WAN traffic will not using the WAAS. However the user can still be able to use the  services over WAN. Right ?

Soofi

WCCP should be disabled on the devices running as "accelerators", not the Central Manager.  Once WCCP has unregistered on the device, the router/switch that the WAAS device was running WCCP with wil forward traffic normally (as if WCCP was not enabled).

Zach
