SRST vs CME-SRST

Hello All,

I have configured and used SRST, but not CME-SRST. Can you help to guess how it works?

For example, with CME-SRST have I got to add manually the ephone and ephone-dn or does it autoprovision?

Only autoprovision the first time and then remains configured, or do I loose the ephone config when phones go to Call Manager?

My doubt is, in general, because in SRST you can not configure, for example, a pickup-group because until you are in SRST mode, you do not know wich phones you have.

Thanks

Hi

Read this : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmesrst.pdf

In summary, you have a command that controls whether phone/dn config is added to the config of the router:

srst mode auto-provision [none|dn|all]

If set to none, then nothing is added to the config (like normal SRST). By defining a dn-template with the pickup group assigned, you could assign the same pickup to all phones that register.

If set to 'dn', then just the DNs are added to the config. This allows you to add hunt groups, pickup groups, names and whatever else you like but doesn't tie the DNs to a specific MAC address - so if you are using EM, and people move around, it will still work well. This is the most common method.

If set to 'all' then the DNs (ephone-dns) and phone MACs (ephones) appear in the config and are linked together. As this will probably then be saved, if people log out of phones and into other ones when in CCM service, they might get randomly moved when they fail back to SRST.

All the ephones/dns are created when you first fail over to SRST, so a common approach is to have everything set up on CCM, then fail over to SRST. Once failed over, the config for the phones appears and you can customise it.

Aaron
