1000BaseT SFPs stop working in WS-X6724-SFP line card

Hi,

We have recently observed a strange problem with Copper 1000BaseT SFPs in a WS-X6724-SFP line card within a 7606 chassis. All copper SFPs stopped working but and ports did not show connected (and the status LEDs were not lit) but the opposite end of the link saw the connection as 'up' (these we just point-to-point GigE links between GigE SFPs and GigE ports on a WS-X6748-GE-TX line card in another chassis. Fibre SFPs still remained operational. The only change made was the insertion of some 10GE optics (-SR and -LR) into two 8-port 10GE line cards in the 7606 chassis which shouldn't have had any effect. The 7606 is running 12.2(33)SRD4 Advanced IP Services. The WS-X6724-SFP has not be reset as we are awaiting a suitable maintenance window, and would prefer not to reset it if there's an alternative solution. Has anything similar been seen before?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Since you have recently added 2 more line cards, do you have big enough power supply to support all the modules?

CSCtf69154 Bug Details6704 and 6724 goes in PowerDown in SRD for "SCP dnld failure"
Symptom:
Cards in PowerDown mode after upgrading to SRD. SCP dnld failure message displayed in the log.

Conditions:
Upgrading from SXF to SRD

Workaround:
Downgrade solves the issue

We upgraded the PSUs ahead of installing the additional cards, and there is sufficient power available now.

I too found that bug (thanks leoaohoo), but the module has been working fine with SRD4 until the 10G optics were installed in the 7606.

As a workaround, we installed a 48-port GE-TX card and move the ports using copper SFPs to that which proved that it was something to do with the copper SFPs in the WS-X6724-SFP line card. What is really odd is it only appears to affect the copper SFPs; the SX/LX GigE SFPs are still working.

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Matt,

I'm suspecting you are hitting a bug somewhere on the IOS.  I'm not sure how keen you are to upgrade to the next level IOS.
