upgrade to CM v6.1 or v7.1- is present Hardware adequate?

Answered Question
May 18th, 2010

My servers are as follows:

MCS-7815-I2-IPC1 (call manager publisher)

MCS-7815-I2-IPC1 (call manager subscriber)

MCS-7815-I2-ECS1 (Unity voicemail)

All three boxes have 2gb of RAM and 80gb hard drives.

--I want to first confirm that the Call Manager servers as they stand meet the minimum requirements for both Call Manager v6.1 and v7.1 (from what i've researched I think this is true).

--Additionally, I would like to gain some level of comfort that if they are succesfully executing the workload for a 4.2(3) installation under the Windows 2000 platform, they should do fine with either a v6.1 or v7.1 Linux appliance workload of the same users and call volume (around 100 phones). Can you comment on this?

--Also, I would like to find out what future versions our MCS-7815-I2-ECS1 Unity server will support above the currently installed version of Cisco Unity 4.0 Build 4.0(5) (with same user base and call volume).

Can you help with these questions? We are trying to figure out an upgrade path that best fits with our current hardware

I have this problem too.

Hey Mary,

You are most welcome my friend!

The 7815's in a 2-server cluster would not be my first choice as

I would always prefer the HA (High availability) models in at least

a 3-server cluster That being said, I don't see any performance issues

if you follow the SRND guidelines. If your management will fork out

for new boxes then this would be a perfect time to do so.

Cisco MCS 7815 or MCS 7816 (All supported models)

Maximum  Users per Server 300

From this excellent SRND 6.x Guide;

Hey Mary,

Hope life is treating you well my friend!

You are certainly "good to go" for both CUCM 7.x and Unity 7.x

This is the "master" list for Server support, which does show support for your boxes in CUCM 7.1(x);

Supported Cisco Unified Communications Manager Releases by Server

The supported models are nicely shown in this good Unity doc;

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Rob.  Hope all is well with you also.  Your response was just what we needed.   One more question, do you think there will be any kind of performance problem with the older server running v6 or v7?
