See this config guide for details -

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3560/software/release/12.2_44_se/configuration/guide/swadmin.html#wp1020905

Note though if you do it manually as above then when the system is restarted you need to reset the time again. This is because the 3560 does not have a hardware clock. Therefore NTP is a much better way to keep the time synchronised on your network devices that don't have hardware clocks -

Hi Ayman,

The heart of the time service is the system clock. This clock runs from the moment the system starts up and keeps track of the date and time. The time remains accurate until the next system restart. As per the  recommendation says  use manual configuration only as a last resort. If you have an outside source to which the switch can synchronize (NTP), you do not need to manually set the system clock.

Following is the command to set clock manually on switches :-

Switch# clock set 13:32:00 23 July 2001

Hope to Help !!

Thanks for your update

but can i now make the one of my core switches 6513 work as NTP server .??

and if it is possible does it affect the performance of the core or not ??

Thanks

Ayman Yehia

If your core switch is synchronized then yes it's a good idea.  You don't need to configure the core switch just configure the switch with the command "ntp server [prefer]".

Hi Ayman,

Following is the command to make the switch as ntp server for clients in your network and it wont affect any performance issue with 6500 series if it is configured as NTP server for clients.

HG1#clock set 00:00:00 1 Jan 2000
HG1#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
HG1(config)#ntp master 3

and at the clients end configure as

ntp server 10.x.x.x prefer (NTP servers if there are more)  ip address of the core switch which is reachble from network and ntp port needs to be opened that is 123.

Hope to Help !!
