CUCM 7.1.5 how many calls on one # that is on multiple phones

Hello,

I know it is possible, but I was wondering what is the limit if I have an extension, let's say 3333 that is on multiple phones in position 1 on each phone, ie let's say 6 phones.  If all phones are picked up and 6 differnet people using 3333 make external calls, will this work, what is the limit, and how do you set that?  Is is global or line/phone/device base, etc.

Thanks

Gene

Hi Gene,

No worries my friend

I would always assign something to Line 1. It doesn't have to be a DID number

just pick a new range that falls outside your current dial plan. This new range

can be used as "Phantom" numbers for setups like this or perhaps phones that

don't need to be reached from the outside world. If all your DID's are in the 3000 to 3599

range, then maybe you could use 44xx for  "Phantom" numbers.

This really helps to identify the phones when troubleshooting etc. The users can report

via the Line 1 number and not have to reference the mac.

Cheers!

Hi Gene,

Yes this will work

You can play with the Max Calls setting (under the Directory Number config) for

each of the 6 phones with 3333 to ensure that it works the way you want. The

"best practice" for shared Lines is to NOT make them Line 1 on all the phones.

Shared Line Tips - with some nice examples

Do not configure shared-line appearances on the primary lines of the phones; for example, if two phones have a shared-line appearance, only one of the phones should have the primary line configured as shared (the other phone should have the secondary line configured as shared).

Rob,

Thanks.  Then is it safe to say that the number 3333 should be primary on one phone and second position on the others, even though on the others I do not assign a primary number  (it is left blank).  They are wanting to use the phones as simple dial in devices to a time and attendance system local to the Phone network.

Thanks
