CM Upgrade 4.1(3) to 7.1(3) Help

I have sucefully ran the DMA and loaded it on my new CM 7.1 server.  I have also sucefully loaded my subscriber.  So I am sitting with my new environment running CM 7.1(3).

I have administered CM 4.x for the past 5 years and was comfortable enough to get everything I needed done, but I am somewhat lost now.  Since I have not moved the new updated HW to the production yet, I wanted to preform some tests.  I ordered some new phone (9951) and I am trying to add them, but the phone type is not listed.  Before I would just install the device pack to get the new phone supported, but I cannot for the life of me find out how to add a new phone load.

tl;dr I need to know how to add a phone type to CM 7.1(3)

Also, if anyone has some infromation on administering CM 7.1 I would be happy to read over it.

Thanks,

Hi Tim,

You will need at least 7.1(3a)su1 but if you are going to upgrade

before going into production I think 7.1(3b)su2 would be the way

to go as it has many bug fixes

Cisco Unified IP Phone 8900 and 9900 Series

Before  using the Cisco Unified IP Phone with Cisco Unified Communications  Manager, you must install the latest firmware on all Cisco Unified  Communications Manager servers in the cluster.

Note You can install Cisco  Unified Communications Manager 7.1(3) or 7.1(3a). After you install one  of these releases, you must install Cisco Unified Communications  Manager *** 7.1(3a)su1. ***

Just to add something to the great info from Rob (+5), to add the FW and devpack follow these link:

You can use the Software Upgrades options to perform the following types  of installations and upgrades:

Install/Upgrade—Use this option to  upgrade the application software, install Cisco Unified Communications  Manager Locale Installers and dial plans, and upload and install device  packs, phone firmware loads, and other COP files.

TFTP File Management—Use this option to  upload various device files for use by the phones to the TFTP server.  The TFTP server files that you can upload include custom phone rings,  callback tones, and phone backgrounds.

As for documentation:

Maintain and Operate Guides

I'd recommend you to review these as a start

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration Guide, Release 7.1(2) --> CCMAdmin reference, a must
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Features and Services Guide, Release 7.1(2)  --> Mobility, intercom, local route groups, AC, IPMA, etc
Disaster Recovery System Administration Guide for Release 7.1(2)  --> How to backup the server.

Cisco Unified IP Phone 9951, and 9971 models are only supported in CCM 8.0+

I do not believe that is correct.  You can run these models in a 7.1 cluster as well (at least you can on 7.1(3b)su2. If you want video capabilities then you will need to load a device pack.  For example, if you have a 7.1(3) cluster you can use cmterm-devicepack7.1.3.33024-1.cop to enable video access on the 9951 and 9971.  Of course, the device pack is for CUCM web pages and db.  You also need firmware 9.0(2) or later on the device so that it can recognize the USB camera.

Oh, sorry, I'm wrong.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.1(3) + Device Package or Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.0(1) and later
can both support Cisco 9951 and 9971 Phones.

please refer to Cisco Phone 9900 Data sheet:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6788/phones/ps10453/ps10512/data_sheet_c78-565717.htmlhttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6788/vcallcon/ps556/ps10662/sales_tool_c96-592658.pdf

I upgraded to 7.1(3b)su2 and am able to add the 9951's.  I just need to sort out a licensing file issue now.

Hi Tim and all

i upgrade my CUCM 7.0 TO 7.1(3a)SU1.I am able to Add 9951 IP Phones but they are not registering with CUCM

I believe this is because of Firmware file is missing

I checked Device Default Configuration and found the load inforamtion for 9951 is missing.

Do i need to install the device pack on my CUCM or i need to upload firmware file.

Kindly assist me to sort out this issue .

Thanks
