Ok,

The priority tells which will begin as the  active supervisor.

Hi Sreeju,

Cisco or at least our SEs do not recommend priority and preemption.  We also have done some testing with it. It gets very confusing to keep track of primary and backup switch when there is a failure.  The VSS pair becomes some what unpredictable when using priority and preemption since it cause the devices to reboot.

Hi,

In the original Cisco VSS implement document they did suggest using priorities but that is no longer recommended and therefore should be avoided.

I would suggest not setting the priority.

Thanks,

Hey,

We dont bother having different priorites or preempt either.

I cant see any reason for having a "master" as it shouldnt matter what switch is active at any one time.

VSLP tends to resolve whos going to be master happily. Just remember to have dual active crosslinks.

Switch  Switch Status  Priority     Role    Session   ID

        Number         Oper(Conf)           Local    Remote

------------------------------------------------------------------

LOCAL    2     UP       100(100)    ACTIVE   0        0

REMOTE   1     UP       100(100)    STANDBY  6991     2069
