Is it possible to use the 4ESW on a Cisco 2611XM ?

Hello,

I try to use my 4ESW HWIC (and my 1T) module on my Cisco 2611XM (It was on my Cisco 1700 before, and works fine on it), So I remove it from my old router, and plug it into my new router, but when I start the router, it don't detect it (but it detect the 1T module), I get this message at boot :

Cisco 2611XM (MPC860P) processor (revision 1.0) with 94540K/3764K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID JAD0703049W
M860 processor: part number 5, mask 2
2 FastEthernet interfaces
1 Serial interface
32K bytes of NVRAM.
32768K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

Slot is empty or does not support clock participate
WIC slot is empty or does not support clock participate
SETUP: new interface Serial0/0 placed in "shutdown" state

It detect the serial module, it's own FastEthernet interfaces, but nothing about the 4ESW module... Nothing appear in the "show interfaces" command too,

So I switched the 1T and the 4ESW module to verify if the HWIC port is dead, fortunaly that's not the case, same problem...

It's really strange, it looks like there is something incompatible, because both the Router HWIC port works fine with the 1T module and on ther other side the 4ESW works fine on the Cisco 1700...

Is there anything to setup to make it works ? I never used the HWIC interfaces on something else than my old Cisco 1700...

My firmware is : c2600-advipservicesk9-mz.124-25b.bin

Thank you

Hi Mathieu,

It does not seem that it is supported for 2600 series.

From the data sheet:

This document provides configuration tasks for the 4-port Cisco HWIC-4ESW and the 9-port Cisco HWIC-D-9ESW EtherSwitch high-speed WAN interface cards (HWICs) hardware feature supported on Cisco 1800 (modular), Cisco 2800, and Cisco 3800 series integrated services routers.

Thank you, I think I've found a document that list the modules that could be compatible with the 2611XM :

As answered, the HWIC-4ESW you have is not supported, but note that the earlier WIC-4ESW is supported in the 2600 series.

The 2600 has WIC slots and the 2800 has HWIC slots.  HWIC's are of course backwards compatible with WIC cards.
