How to configure Cisco 7975 backlight behavior?

I have five 7975G's, one 7925G and a SPA on my UC-540.

I want the 7975G's to turn on at 8:30AM and off at 5:30PM, Monday through Friday.

I want the 7975G backlight to come on when used outside those hours for 10 minutes.

Finally, when the backlight is idle and a new call comes in, the baclight should stay on for 10 minutes. I think the default behaivor is teh phone does not light up, but im not sure.

Here is what I think I need;

service phone daysBacklightNotActive 1,7
service phone backlightOnTime 08:30
service phone backlightOnDuration 09:00
service phone backlightIdleTimeout 00:15

service phone displayOnWhenIncomingCall 10

create cnf-files
reset all

When I try this, it does not work. I think its because I am not applying the changes to the 7975G phones explicitly.

Can anyone tell me how to do that or what I am doing wrong?

On a side note, its pretty silly that Cisco shows these settigns int he phone's GUI, but denies the ability to make changes.

Thanks,

Hi Brook,

I'm going through a similar issue right now and I think I found the solution --

First, create an ephone-template that has all the parameters you need:

ephone-template 10

     service phone daysBacklightNotActive 1,7
     service phone backlightOnTime 08:30
     service phone backlightOnDuration 09:00
     service phone backlightIdleTimeout 00:15

     service phone displayOnWhenIncomingCall 10

Then apply the ephone-template to the ephone's:

ephone xx

     ephone-template 5

Then regenerate the cnf files and reset the phones:

no create cnf

create cnf

reset all

I believe that should work, but if not, hopefully it'll put you in the right direction.  Please be sure and post the results.

Regards,

Brandon

I'll try it tonight and advise.

Thanks!

I just realized my examples used different template tag #'s -- just make sure you use the same tags when you implement.

ephone-template 10

     service ...

ephone xx

     ephone-template 10

Brandon,

I'll give it a try and advise the resutls.

ephone-template 10

     service phone daysBacklightNotActive 1,7
     service phone backlightOnTime 08:30
     service phone backlightOnDuration 09:00
     service phone backlightIdleTimeout 00:15

     service phone displayOnWhenIncomingCall 10

Then apply the ephone-template to the ephone's:

ephone xx

     ephone-template 10

Then regenerate the cnf files and reset the phones:

no create cnf

create cnf

reset all

Thanks,
