HWIC-4ESW card installation issue

Hi Experts,

We have installed an HWIC-4ESW card on a Cisco 2801 router in SLOT#0. However the card is not getting detected.

The IOS version is 12.4(13r)T .

Can you please advise if there is something we are missing here. Does it needs to go into a specific slot on the router.

Appreciate the help.

Regards,

Imran.

Hello Imran,

According to this link :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/interfaces/ic/hardware/installation/guide/oview_ic.html#wp1111342

In the Cisco 2801 (and not 2811, 2821 ...) : slot 0 and slot 2 do not support HWICs (they are recognized in slot 1 and 3).

So I would suggest to turn off your 2801 move your HWIC form slot 0 to slot 1.*

Thank you.

Kind regards

Karim

Hi Imran,

According to this link :  http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5853/product_data_sheet0900aecd8016bf0b.html

, the module should be detected in your version  (minimum supported IOS is 12.3(8)T).Moreover I do not see any SLOT restriction about this module.

However I would like to know what is the exact reference of your module ? Is it  HWIC-4ESW or HWIC-4ESW-POE ? Indeed for the last case (poe module) the router has to have a special power supply => (reference of the bundle is CISCO2801-AC-IP)

=> http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5853/prod_qas0900aecd8016c026_ps5854_Products_Q_and_A_Item.html

A. The Cisco  2800, 2900, 3800 and 3900series routers support optional  field-replaceable power supplies that, along with the inline power  modules (4- and 8-port modules: part numbers ILPM-4 and ILPM-8) provide  the PoE function.

If the module is not POE, have you tried in another slot ? Is the module listed in the 'sh diag' (/ show inventory) ?

Regards.

Karim

Hi Karim,

The card is HWIC-4ESW .

Also its not showing in sh diag. Below is the output.

Hello Imran,

According to this link :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/interfaces/ic/hardware/installation/guide/oview_ic.html#wp1111342

In the Cisco 2801 (and not 2811, 2821 ...) : slot 0 and slot 2 do not support HWICs (they are recognized in slot 1 and 3).

So I would suggest to turn off your 2801 move your HWIC form slot 0 to slot 1.*

Thank you.

Kind regards

Karim

Hi Karim,

Thanks much for your guidance. The card is getting detected after moving to slot#1.

Appreciate your help.

Best Regards,

Imran.

As Karim, the module works in Slots 1& 3 on the 2801 platform.

Dear Imran,

In 2801, Only Slot 1 and slot 3 support HWIC-Card therefore you should move HWIC-4ESW from Slot0 to Slot1
