I just purchased a bunch of 2960S WS-C2960S-48FPD-L switches that I will use as distribution layer switches.  My top of rack switch is a 3750 switch running layer 3 with locally distributed VLAN's.

I want to connect each 2960S to the 3750 via port 48 and port 47 using etherchannel trunks BUT I was curious as to pros and cons of doing this vs using the GBIC ports 1 and 2.  Do the gig ports on the 2960S share an ethernet controller vs the GBIC ports having their own ethernet controller?

Any advise will be helpful.
