I recenlty received some 3500XL switches and I am trying to reset their password so I can erase all configs.  I am starting by trying to follow the instructions to boot to the Switch Rom where I can reset the password.  My instructions have me:

- Hold mode button and connect power cable

- once the light above the 1x port goes off, release mode

I am suppose to see the "password-recovery mechanism is enabled" line but I only see "Xmodem file system is available" instead.  If i continue on in the instructions i get access denied when I try to access the flash dir (dir flash command).

Can someone help me with what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

I am already following these instructions as I posted in my original post.

This is a 3524 XL and I am releasing the mode button when the port 1x light goes out (as I specified in the original post).  Instead of it saying The password-recovery mechanism is enabled.

I am seeing the following:

C3500XL Boot Loader (C3500-HBOOT-M) Version 11.2(8.2)SA6, MAINTENANCE INTERIM SO

FTWARE

Base ethernet MAC Address: 00:30:94:c2:20:c0

Xmodem file system is available.

The system has been interrupted prior to initializing the

flash filesystem.  The following commands will initialize

the flash filesystem, and finish loading the operating

system software:

    flash_init

    load_helper

    boot

switch:

Therefore when I try to continue and get to the command "dir Flash" it gives me an access denied permission message.

Please help

Hi

what about this command

switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old

or

switch: delete flash:config.text

Tell me the output of ALL of these commands---copy and paste exactly what it says!

Thanks for the help:

As you can see from the output, it stated "rename" was an invalid argument.  But using the delete command it prompted me if I wanted to delete, but when I select 'y' I get invalid argument.  You will see that I tried "Y" and "Yes" as well.

Ok I found my problem, lucky for me there was another doc on the internet that point out the importance of including the ":" at the end of the command:  "dir flash:".

Not adding that was causing my problem.

Thanks for the assistance though.
