Looking for meaning of log entry in WLC 4402

Unanswered Question

This appears over and over again in my log buffer (which is set to trap warnings thru alerts):

*Jun 15 14:46:54.016: %APF-4-PROC_ACTION_FAILED: apf_wme_utils.c:3440 Could not process 802.11 Action. Received Action frame with invalid category field from mobile station. Mobile:1C:4B:D6:5B:19:18.
-Traceback:  1014152c 1062bcdc 10103ba0 10103dbc 104c47c0 10e4d7f4 1103f1ac

I'm just wondering if anybody knows what this means.  I've looked on Cisco's website and found nothing useful.  I did find one article that said the message meant:

"Could not process 802.11 Action."

Duh.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steven

I have this problem too.

I have the exact same errors showing in my log and also found the same useless explanation for the error among Cisco's error definitions.  I'm running on 5508 WLCs with the 7.0.98.0 code and 1252 APs.  I need to know what code AFP-4 means .... Access Point Functionality 4 = ?  I have MAC Book Pros dropping connection to my network and suspect this will help me find the cure for that.  I know there are fixes for this posted on Apple web sites and other places but the fixes don't fix the issue.  Let me know if you find something about this.  I put in a TAC case for it.

I was told by Cisco that the errors could be ignored.  The wireless client was using a subset of 802.11 feature(s) that were not supported by the WLC.

The WLC I am using is a 5508 not a 4402. I could not choose a 5508 in the online troubleshooter or TAC case because that model was not among the selections in the drop down list. The error is this. The apfMsConnTask "2" shown below goes anywhere between 0 and 6, so I'm not sure what that number indicates in the error message wither.

I have a few MAC laptops dropping connections quite a bit and I'm trying to sift through the logs to see if I can find a reason for it.

Cisco5508-A *apfMsConnTask_2: (date): %AFP-4-INVALID_ACTION_CATEGORY: apf_wme_utils.c:4946 Could not process 802.11 Action. Received Action frame with invalid category field from mobile station. Mobile (MAC address), Category:4.

Thanks for getting back to me!

Mary
