Could I upgrade from 7.1(5) to 8.x?

I couldn't make clear by CUCM software compatibility Matrix.

No; 7.1(5) was tested and released after both 8.0(1) and 8.0(2). You will need to wait for a subsiquant 8.0 release to perform this upgrade.

This will be indicated in Table 4 because 7.1(5) will then be listed as a Direct Upgrade in the table for that release. Sorry to hear this wasn't clear.

Cisco builds different "tracks" (or "trains") of software in parallel.

Maybe not a good analogy, but think CUCM 7.x is "Office 2007" and CUCM 8.x is "Office 2010".

CUCM 7.1.5 is like "the latest service pack for Office 2007". CUCM 8.0.1 is the very first version of "Office 2010".

There's no need to "upgrade" CUCM 7.x to 8.x unless you want the "new features". Just like there's no point to upgrade Office 2007 SP2 to Office 2010 unless you want the "new features".

You will be able to upgrade but not until 8.5(1) ,which a lot of people is expecting for Windows 7 compatibility, is finally released. Q4FY10 is the FCS for this release.

Can any one help me on how to upgrade the CUCM 7.1.5 to 8.5 in one HOP? many documents of Cisco creating confusion, provide me the correct path for the same.

Hi,

You can upgrade in one hop to 8.5 or 8.6.

I know this for sure, because 7.1.5 is the only version with DMA... So if you have a 4.x version, you go to 7.1.5 with DMA and then you're going to 8.5 or 8.6.
