Hello, I'm wondering if there is an easy way to determine the bandwidth utilization of ports on a Catalyst 3560. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm trying to redesign our network and I'm trying to determine whether I really need to buy more gigabit access switches for end users or whether I can utilize these 10/100 Catalyst 2960s.
I want to determine if the average bandwidth utilization on our gigabit switches which clients connect to is under 100Mb/s.
I'll keep the 3560s for my distribution and intelligent switches/routing, but for end users I think I can get away with 10/100 switches, but I just want to be sure.
For a given point in time just use the "show controllers utilization" command and this will give you port utilization percentage for all ports and how busy the switch fabric is , also works on the 2960 models. For long term trending then you are looking at snmp collection tools like mrtg or something of that nature.
