Solved: Nortel MLT to cisco etherchannel

Hi all

When configuring a trunk from a Nortel device using MLT, to a cisco switch using fixed port channel, Is this OK? I have it working at the moment and there seems no issue, just wanted to make sure its fine.

Sure does, I have a Nortel 8600 MLT connected to a 3750 etherchannel trunk, works just as it should.

Hi Carl,

It is tested ok by Nortel that MLT works fine with cisco etherchannel,check out the below link for confirmation.

Hi there

Did you just add a normal mlt and a normal fixed etherchannel, or did you have to use LACP?

Yeah the Cisco is just a normal Etherchannel adn teh Nortel I believe is too, although a consultant set this up, all I can see is this on the switch:

Nortel

mlt 12 create
mlt 12 add ports 2/45
mlt 12 perform-tagging enable
mlt 12 smlt create smlt-id 12

and something like

vlan 105 create byport 1 name "givemeaname" color 6
vlan 105 add-mlt 12
vlan 105 ports add 1/1-1/2,1/45,2/1-2/2,2/45 member portmember
vlan 105 ip create 192.168.26.254/255.255.255.0 mac_offset 19
vlan 105 ip pim enable
vlan 105 ip ospf enable
vlan 105 ip ospf authentication-type simple
vlan 105 ip ospf authentication-key ***
vlan 105 ip rsmlt enable
vlan 105 ip rsmlt holdup-timer 9999
