ok i recently got a router with 2 fast Eth ports, and im going to hook the router up into my cable modem, but i do not know if i should use the IP assigned from the cable modem (192.168.10.101) or if i should use my external IP address 172....
I also need help with what i should do for incoming and outgoing traffic, as in should i use a routing proto RIPv2 whatever.
I dont know how to set this up for use in my LAN, im going to have everyone go through this router so i need some help with the initial config.
Thanks

modem IP would be 192.168.100.2
LAN IP DHCP pool starting address: 192.168.1.12

Hi,
You use ip assigned from cable modem and drop a default route towards the cable modem in your router and drop a reverse route in cable modem for your lan subnet towards router interface.
your traffic will flow without any problem towards outside and will have reverse route for incoming traffic also.
