Connecting SAME subnet over routed network.

HI,

We need to connect same subnet that is spread across the two locations those are connected by L3 link.

This will enable users from this subnet to access resources at the other location but are on same subnet.

Is it possible using GRE tunneling / L2TP or by any other technique  assuming routers will support all necessary commands.

Please share the experience

Thanks

Subodh

Don't do that, it's one of the worst mistakes you can do in networking.

Even if you think it is a good idea, it will give only trouble and headaches.

Hi,

Appreciate your prompt responce.

p. bevilacqua I have read your earlier thread on this same topic. But still need to do somehow. ( Using big subnet mask and fixing up software which check the network subnet )

Friends please share the experience.

Thanks
Subodh

Fix the application, not the network.

I agree

Hi,

I'd recommend readdressing one of the LANs.

If impossible, NAT for overlapping networks might help

(see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk648/tk361/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080093f30.shtml ).

Hello Subodh,

you probably have opened two threads on the same issue.

if the problem is a multicast stream with TTL=1 fixing the application is not so difficult unless there are security policies behind this choice.

Even if L2TPv3 or EoMPLS could provide a L2 transport service you should ask for a change in the application and in the security policy if now the stream has to be available in remote sites.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
