Hello,
Greetings of the day!!!!
Can anybody tell me what is the basic concept of GMPLS and what are the benefits and significance of GMPLS in the Today's Network?

Hello Inderdeep,
the idea behind GMPLS is to use MPLS signalling plane to as the signalling plane in an optical network where different wavelenghts are used to create all optical switched paths.
So the first level LSP is implemented in such a way that the label is mapped to a specific wavelength and this means it reaches a specific router connected to the optical cloud.
well generalized stands for total separation of control plane and forwarding plane.

Hello Giuslar,
Thanxs for your valuable notes on it.
I need how Gmpls signalling merge ? as what i got from the concept that Router and Optical devices have same signals and so that
The standard would create a single control plane that extends from IP at Layer 3 right down to the optical transport level at Layer 1.
It means that router and optical devices have knowledge to forward the packets and they can share the topology as usual as router sharing it with another router?
With Regards

Hello Inderdeep,
the router is the brain and the optical device or whatever is the arm.
In the first days of MPLS deployed over ATM it was the same with a C7200 or routing engine used as brain for an ATM switch.
The target is to avoid too many levels if an MPLS label means a specific lambda = going to a specific remote PE on the edge of the optical cloud in case of fault the routing protocol will tell to the node you now need to send traffic to remote PEy using lambda2.
otherwise in case of fault each layer would try to react to faults in some cases doing opposite things
Hope to help

hi,
GMPLS is a standardized protocol suite to dynamically set-up and protect connections in an optical transport network
It is the natural evolution of MPLS towards circuit-oriented transport networks (SDH, DWDM, OTN)
with the help of GMPLS we can make L0 and L1 Mesh optical network. in ring network you have two option one main path and other protection. If both are down service is down. but in case of GMPLS/ASON network you have more than one restoration options. network divide in three plan
1.Management plan
2.control plan
3.data plan
