EIGRP Issue Not Accepting Routes from Neighbor

I have an issue I am trying to understand with EIGRP not accepting or not using routes advertised from an EIGRP neighbor.  Router A is directly connected to Router B, and both have established eigrp neighbor relationship with one another.  When displaying IP PROTOCOL, Router A does not list Router B as a Routing Information Source, but Router B does show Router A as a Routing Information Resource.  Router B has 5 directly connected networks it is advertising to Router A, but Router A will not put the networks in it's routing table, nor are they in the topology table.  What would cause this?  Below are snipets from the two routers:

I am glad that you have got the problem resolved. Thanks for posting back to the forum about it. Perhaps you could mark the question as solved. This would benefit other people who might read the thread to find out about the problem and about its solution.

Your solution of removing and rebuilding the multilink configuration is a stronger action but similar to my suggestion about interface shutdown/no shutdown. As I commented in a previous post I have seen situations where a routing protocol got confused or out of sync about a neighbor (sometimes it seems related to a configuration change made and then removed where the protocol seems to be remembering the change even though it is no longer in the running config, and sometimes we never had a clue what caused it) and terminating and rebuilding the neighbor relationship would solve the issue.

So congratulations on getting your problem resolved.

I'm going to say split-horizon. Try turning it off on the router that isn't seeing the routes:

no ip split-horizon eigrp 2013

The problem comes in when eigrp won't advertise routes on an interface that it learned it on. Be careful with disabling it though because it can wreak havoc on your network and cause loops. This is built-in to eigrp to prevent routing loops.

John's suggestion of split horizon is interesting. I recently ran into a situation that may be similar to this which turned out to be duplicate router IDs on the two routers.

It would be helpful if the original poster would post some additional information. I would like to see:

- show ip interface brief from both routers.

- on router B a show ip route (or just part of it if the route table is large) especially including the routes on router B that are not advertised to router A.

- on router A a show ip route and/or show ip topology for some of the routes on router B that are not advertised to router A.

Below is some of the additional information you wanted to see.  Sorry, miscounted the number of directly attached networks to Router B.  You will see that Router A is receiving the networks directly connected to Router B from another direction, which I believe is causing asynchronous routing as Router B is accepting everything from Router A, but no matter how much I change the metrics from this other direction, Router A will not accept the networks from Router B.  I did look into the possibility of duplicate router ID's but found no evidence.  The routing tables are somewhat large so I just included the networks that I am having the issue with.

What I believe it shows is not so much that router A will not accept advertisements from router B but that router A is preferring routes for the prefixes from some other router.

Perhaps it will help us figure this out if you would post the output on router A of show ip eigrp topology 10.245.103.0 255.255.255.0

Agreed, which is why I attempted to make the routes from the other router even less desirable by changing metrics (primarily delay by as much as 50000milliseconds) so that the networks from Router B would be preferred.  You can already see that the networks such as 10.245.103.0 have a minimum bandwidth and total delay much worse than that over the link that directly connects Routers A and B.  Attached is the topology entry you asked for:

It is showing that there is not a topology entry for a prefix received from router B. So something does seem to be preventing the advertisements.

I see that there is not a bandwidth statement on the multilink interfaces. I wonder if the behavior would change if you configured a bandwidth statement on each of the multilink interfaces.

I also wonder about this:service-policy output UDN-EDGE

Could you post the configurations related to this service policy?

We know the service-policy is not causing the issue.  Identical policy with identical class-maps/ACLs are on all routers and this is the only problem area.

Thanks for the additional information. It sure does look like the service policy is not the cause of the problem.

I have another idea to suggest. On router A do show ip eigrp events. This displays the event log from EIGRP. It may or may not have something that points to the problem, but it establishes a baseline for what is happening in the router. Then on router A do a clear ip eigrp for the neighbor router B. After doing the clear on the neighbor do another show ip eigrp events. This should contain events as the neighbor relationship was re-established and hopefully will point to what the issue may be.

The event logs shows Router A ignoring the networks advertised from Router B.  Why it is ignoring a better metric is the mystery.  Below is a snipet from the log.  As expected it is ignoring networks that should be coming from other interfaces, but also the directly attached networks from Router B.

This is slightly off topic, but why do you need a class for your IGP?  That

is taken care of by PAK_priority.

Thank you for the additional information. The output of show ip eigrp event does confirm that the router is ignoring the advertised routes. But so far it is not providing much insight into why. I wonder if we could get the event log at the time that the neighbor was cleared if there might be a more helpful message. (note in eigrp events the most recent events are at the top and the older events are at the bottom of what is displayed.

And while I am fishing for clues I wonder if you would post the output of show ip protocol from both routers.
