Remove FWSM from 6500

Is there a procedure for powering off and remove the modules in a 6500? I am going to remove two FWSM and a NAM.

Hello Bill,

you should put offline the FWSM by removing all occurrences of firewall keyword

once the FWSM is not connected to outside world you can use hw-module module X command with appropriate option or better you can session to the module to prepare it to shutdown (to be preferred)

once you have done these stes you should be able to remove it.

Also the NAM is a linux based appliance so the question is wise

in the case of NAM you should verify if there are any monitor sessions with destination= NAM

Hi,

The firewall module should be removed only after you disable power using one of these methods. (There is no preference for a particular method.)

    * Use the command-line interface (CLI) of the switch and issue one of these commands.
          o CatOS - set module power down mod
          o Cisco IOS® Software - no power enable module slot
    * Press the shutdown button on the blade.
    * Physically power down the chassis.

You can remove the module safely when the status light is not green.
