I have just started my CCSP prep.

I want to know if the Cisco 5505 with an AIP SSC will be enuf to practice the lab for IPS exam.

Please let me know.

As far as the signatures are concern, there shouldn't be any difference between AIP-SSC on ASA5505 compared to other IPS like the IPS4200 series appliance, IDSM module, AIP modules on ASA5510 and above models.

The interfaces/how to direct traffic towards the IPS device might be slightly difference between each platform.

However, touch and feel for everything else (all the features) are the same.

Hope that helps.

You may want to consider another platform. The SSC does not support custom signatures and has no physical interfaces. Physical interfaces make the logical understanding of network division simpler. Custom signatures are needed to match random strings in packets.
