Port Availability

What we need is, an application which can basically find out how many free ports we have on each of our switches and put it into a report so that we can see which switches are reaching capacity, so that we can then put new switches in to increase the capacity on site.

We looked at using something called port tracker, which ended up causing too many issues with our network. We also have an application called Net Disco which is free, which does tell us when a port was last used, but it doesnt put it into a report for us.

We basically need something that saves us checking each switch manually to see how many ports are free.

Ideally the application would need to support both Cisco and Extreme. But if it doesnt support Extreme then it isnt the end of the world.

If nobody knows of a program that does it, how do you manage the capacity of your switches on your networks?
