NM-1T3/E3 configuration problem

bclough
Level 1
Level 1

I have an NM-1T3/E3 card installed in slot 3 of a 3845. The router sees the card using "show version" or "show inventory". However, I cannot configure the card. I have read that I need to enter "card type t3 3" in config mode. However, that command does not exist nor does "controller t3". Any help would be appreciated.

You cannot configure the card type because the NM is disabled. If there are no valid modules to configure with the card type command you will get the parser error. Can you remove the NM and reinsert it into the router? Once that is done give it a minute and see if the NM is recognized. The output should look like:

    NM-1T3/E3 (clear/subrate) Port adapter, 1 port
    Port adapter is analyzed

One the NM is analyzed you will be able to use the card type command and then the controller interfaces will be available. If the NM doesn't power up again can you try a different slot on the router?

Did you power down the router before installing the NM? If I remember correctly this NM does not support OIR. Can you paste in the output from the following command:

show diag 3

Here is the "show diag 3" results:

router#sh diag 3

You cannot configure the card type because the NM is disabled. If there are no valid modules to configure with the card type command you will get the parser error. Can you remove the NM and reinsert it into the router? Once that is done give it a minute and see if the NM is recognized. The output should look like:

    NM-1T3/E3 (clear/subrate) Port adapter, 1 port
    Port adapter is analyzed

One the NM is analyzed you will be able to use the card type command and then the controller interfaces will be available. If the NM doesn't power up again can you try a different slot on the router?

Unfortunately this router is at a remote location and I will need to have the local point of contact perform your recommended tasks. Will let you know after that has occurred.

They moved the card to another slot and rebooted, which made the card active.

Thanks for the assistance.
