I've been looking for study materials for the CXFF 642-384 exam but haven't been having much luck. The few resources I have found are advertising a product but provide to way to purchase it. Is this so new that nobody has the materials yet? My employer needs me to get this but I'm not going to take a test I can't prepare for. Any advise, suggestions, or comments would be very much appreciated.
It's 7/26 and as far as I can tell there are still no third party study materials available yet. It typically takes a month or so after one exam expires for materials for the next exam to start showing up. The last day to take the previous exam, 642-383 CXFF, was 7/3.
A few weeks ago I was in the same boat as you. Required by my employer to take the 642-384 CXFF. We're a Cisco partner, so I have full access to the PEC curriculum for the 642-384 CXFF exam. I spend the entire weekend going though the nearly 28+ hours of material, and took the test Tuesday of this week. For my particular situation, I found the exam slighly more difficult than other Cisco Exams (I passed my CCNA with ease, mainly due to the wide array of study materials available). I failed the test by 2 questions, and was furious. MANY times throughout the material, the product they used to perform the screen captures to integrate into the study material, the screen would just say: THIS PROJECT HAS EXPRED.
Additionally the voiceover (basically the guy reading the screens to you) would say "blah blah blah this feature reduces downtime" while the text on the screen would say "blah blah blah this feature increases downtime"
I've called and opened a case with Cisco and with PearsonVue and hope that they realize that their material for the 642-384 CXFF Cisco Express Foundations for Field Engineers 1.3 is absolute JUNK and they should discontinue administering the courseware and test until this issue is fixed.
I'm EXTREMELY disappointed in CISCO for having NO editing staff over this. I've gone through TONS of Microsoft, Cisco, VMWare, and multitudes of other vendors material and tests and never experienced anything with such a low quality as this material.
I'd recommend finding another test (possibly the CXFF 1.2) or other test/ cerfication that covers similar topics. I would be embarassed to hand this material to an EDITOR, its like somebody threw it all together in the course of a week because they had a deadline and did not review it before publishing.
Additionally, there are many 'scenarios' on the test, and all the review material for this course is all multiple choice/ multiple answer, and I felt it was very difficult to prepare for the 642-384 test due to a lack of Cisco or other vendor test preparation materials.

Much of the material is covered at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6890/serv_category_home.html
Specifically the links at the bottom, to a whitepaper PDF and a Flash demonstration about the Cisco Lifecycle Services.
The only real official study materials for this exam are on the Cisco Partner E-Learning Connection (PEC) site. About 36 hours of CBT flash videos and such. Assuming you're taking the CXFF so your company can become a Cisco Partner (why else would anyone ever take it?), you should be able to access PEC at http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le36/learning_partner_e-learning_connection_tool_launch.html
Generally the exam is about the Lifecycle stuff, as well as their SMB product portfolio (painful if you're used to dealing with enterprise level hardware - as in, the stuff that runs IOS). Blueprint here: http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_exams/642-384.html
The 642-384 CXFF exam is intended primarily for Cisco Channel Partner Field Engineers. The exam tests a candidate's knowledge of:
- Accurately installing and configuring proposed wireless, security, unified communications and routing and switching integrated solutions, performing basic diagnostics and problem solving as needed.
- The Cisco Lifecycle Services approach: How to successfully sell, deploy, and support Cisco technologies.
Candidates can take the Cisco Express Foundation for Field Engineers v1.3 course on the Partner Education Connection to prepare for the exam.
- Describe the Cisco Lifecycle Services approach
- Describe the Cisco products and solutions for Unified Communications
- Implement and verify a Cisco integrated switching and routing solution
- Implement and verify a Cisco security solution
- Implement and verify a Cisco wireless solution
So basically, its a sales exam for engineers. Ouch. Good luck, I'm taking it on Friday.
