Hi!  We received this question on our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/CiscoSupportCommunity

What are the advantages of Cisco Nexus 7000 vs.  Catalyst 6506 for core network switching? I'm debating Nexus vs.  Catalyst for core, distribution, access revitalization projects at a few  major data-centers.

Hi,

One of the main differences is Performance between the N7000 and 6500 because the N7000 processes at a much faster which is known as the major difference, N7000 does not have the ability to add service modules. the 6500 does have this available. If you looking to go Virtualization or 10gbe then the N7000 is the way to go. In a 6500 today you can only get 4 10GE ports at line rate per slot. The Nexus 7K can do 8 10GE ports.N7000 chassis was designed with 1/10/40/100GE in mind, whereas the 6500 was designed with 1/10Ge.

Hope to Help !!
