Have you tried another tftp program? There's not anything in the running config that would cause you not to be able to back up to a tftp server.

Hi John,

No I had not, but before replying to you, I went and got an other program and it did the same thing, what is going through my mind would it be a problem with the high order ports, like ftp uses high order ports to, other than that I cannot think of anything else...

I would try taking off the acl on your inside interface and then see if it works....

Hi John,

This is mad, still no joy, you can see the 837 talking to the tftp server, it has the file name there, it just says 0 bytes, timeout error.

But as a side comment from with the modem it self eg console control should I not be able to ping the pc on 192.168.3.2

Do you have a firewall enabled on that system?

Hi John,

Nope it is xp pro bare system it just has securecrt on it so I can talk to the console, no virus scanner and firewall is off, but all updates was done..

How is the computer connected to the router? Can you ping the router from the pc and vice versa? If you try to ping the pc from the router, try sourcing the ethernet interface (ping source eth0).

Oh, and what tftp server are you running? Try tftpd32. It's free.

Hi John,

Well I am using solarwinds, I used the one you are talking about untill you told me to try an other, I cannot ping from pc to modem or modem to pc.

I plugged the pc into the internet router, and it all worked fine I used the same cable to plug into the 837

Ah...you don't have the computer connecting to a switch? If you have it connected directly to the router, you'll need a crossover cable. Can you post "sh int eth0"?

I think I see the problem.....try to run "ip routing" at the cli....see if that helps.

Hi John,

Sorry this is given you a headache, I tried cross over cables, even rebooted everything to be on the safe side, even added the "ip routing"  and changed cables back, and still the same...

Hi John,

This is going to sound dum perhaps but I just really taken notice as I have 2 of these 837 adsl modems, and the other is down stairs working fine.

But on this one though it has 4 ports on back it does not say it in the software listing, where as my other one says there is 4 Fastethernets

This one says CPU Rev Number 7

Bridgeing Software

1 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)

1 ATM Network interface..

Then the memory...

Does that throw any light on the problem...

Do you have that model that I sent you a link for? That's what was confusing me because you should show 4 interfaces in your running config whether something is connected to them or not. You may have a faulty router....

Hi John,

Sorry I missed that part, yes that is the exact modem I have, the difference between the two that I have is one runs version 12.2 software and the other runs 12.3

Hi John,

Well I found the problem, this now pings both ways, and tftp works

Now can you explain what was wrong in INT Ethernet0 "ip access-group 100 in" in the first config please

Hi John,

Well I used my other modem to prove if it was the modem or not, and the answer is NO

So I installed wireshark, to see what is going on, if I sit on the modem and ping the PC the request goes out, but the reply does not get see by the modem, if I sit on the PC and ping the modem then the modem does not see the ping...

So the problem is the modem is doing something with the data it see's probably dumping it..

I hope this helps
