Hello we've been successfully using IPM 2.4 from Ciscoworks 2000 for last 8 years. We recently migrated to LMS3.1 and all is ok except I'm unable to get the new IPM to work. I think the problem is down to something I'm missing or doing wrong...so if i can describe what we do and then describe how IPM is currently configured perhaps some good soul can point me in right direction to resolving it?
We have a webserver sitting on a server in our DataCentre and it hold 8 pdf files of various sizes.
We configure 42 routers to send a http get request to access each of these files via IPM and we measure response times etc., Reports are generated twice weekly for our customer.
In IPM 2.4 we created 8 different HTTP operations naming them STM-A, STM-B, STM-C...and so on. Each one pointing to a pdf file on webserver on the operation. We create 8 collectors for each router - and each collector points to the HTTP operations created. (hope I'm making sense!!!). We do not use Targets. It all works.
Initially when trying to replicate the settings used in 2.4 i had serious problems getting it work in the new IPM.
First it would not let me create a collector without selecting a target (for this i created a ad hoc target for the server hosting the pdf files). It would create the collectors and i can see them, but it doesn't seem to send the the configurations to the routers (all 1720's btw - but they do work on the old IPM).
I think i got it working once but i couldn't get the reports working....its a nightmare thats been going on for the last few months and i just need some guidance. I can provide screenshots, logs etc., if required.
thanks in advance.

The IPM graphs now use Flash, so make sure you have Flash 9 or higher installed in your browser. Given that the collectors are completing
successfully, you should see data points being drawn in the live Monitor graph. It should take two minutes to see the first point.

Creating an adhoc target was the right thing to do. The next thing to do is to create a custom HTTP operation which points to the appropriate relative URL on the server. You can choose to use a custom DNS server, or just have IP SLA use the DNS which is configured on the device. The final step is to define a Collector where you pick the device, the adhoc target, and your custom HTTP operation. If this gets installed down to the source device successfully, but you are still unable to monitor the latency, post the output of "show ip sla conf" from the source device.

Thanks for taking the time to reply
After posting, I was able to manually create 8 tests and I could see the tests configured on the routers, but when trying to generate reports it shows nothing. I've also tried the Graph option in the Collector Management section IPM>Collector Mgmt>Collectors but it returns "No data available for the selected time period."
IOS version 12.2(40a) so I'm using the old RTR commands! Not sure if there's a compatability issue with this old IOS and the new IPM but I'm guessing its ok as the configs look exactly the same on the routers when using the old IPM.

Post the output of "show rtr coll". If you click the Monitor button under Collector Mgmt do you see any graphs? The reports and Graph button will take
much more time to populate with data. The Monitor button will allow you to monitor your collector in real time.
07-16-2010 09:06 AM
Hi Joseph,
The monitor button displayed an empty graph, and i keep the window open for 30 mins or so but no tracking info.
I actually looked at the "sh rtr coll" command earlier and noticed that the collectors where going over the configured threshold (I left them on the default values). TestA seems to be ok on the default values. Although the others all showed that they were over the thresehold...so I reconfigured the threseholds for TestB operation and this seemed to work (in that I don't see any Overthresholds clocking up)...
Default for A,C,D,E,F,G
Timeout Value(msecs): 5000
Threshold(msecs): 5000
Sample Interval(secs): 300
Setting for B
Miscellaneous Settings
Timeout Value(msecs): 5000
Threshold(msecs): 7000
Sample Interval(secs): 300
heres the output of "sh rtr coll" after changing TestB operation. I guess the thresehold needs to be higher?

The IPM graphs now use Flash, so make sure you have Flash 9 or higher installed in your browser. Given that the collectors are completing
successfully, you should see data points being drawn in the live Monitor graph. It should take two minutes to see the first point.

Hi Joseph,
This morning I changed the thresholds for all of the operations and I can now see data in the monitor graph for all of them. Thanks for helping there. My main issue though is still with generating reports.
After verifying that all the collectors are displaying realtime graphs I left it running for over an hour and tried to generate an hourly report. The report only had data for testA (which was working anyway)....it had no report data held for the remaining 7 collectors. I've attached a screenshot of the report.
Perhaps i should delete the collectors, recreate them and leave it running for awhile and try again. Actually I'll try that now....
cheers
Steven

I tried recreating the collectors and used a different router and appears to be the same issue. Test A gives results - other collectors don't. I guess i possibly need to revise the thresholds configured on the http operations created. I'm not sure i fully understand why though because the threshold on the old IPM are the same and work fine. I'll now toggle the threseholds and see if i can get the reports to pull data for the other collectors.

It seems that the reporting issue is seperate from the issue i was having with collectors. I can now see collectors and monitor stats but reports won't pull data for the majority of the collectors created.
