UC560 SIP Conference Station

Hello All,

I need to know which conference station is compatible with UC560 via SIP and where I can find documentation that supports this. I know of both the 7936 and 7937g but I am unsure if either of them is compatible.

Thanx.

UC560 is usually supported with CCA and configured for SCCP call

control and phone loads on the LAN, where both conference stations work.

Is there a reason you desire the SIP protocol? You can still use SIP

signalling externally (sip trunks).

You should reach out to the Small Business Account Manager in your neck of the woods and ask for a NFR (Not for Resale) DEMO system.  Its a deep discount and then you have a lab to learn on, build a demo system with, and use to enable your sales.  Please buy the support contract too so you can call support.

Here is a lab we provide to help you configure it.  Parts list included.

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9836

then look at LAB #25.

Beware of buying used gear.  There is a process to get it certified with Cisco so it can be covered by support, but to me its cheaper to buy the NFR.

Sorry...Yes meant = means spare :-)  So you were correct there.

You don’t need to include it when ordering.

UC500 series uses SCCP protocol for 7900 series phones and SPCP for SPA5xx series phones.   SPCP is just a handshake token added to the Skinny protocol so the phone will only work with UC500 that accepts it.

Keep in mind SPA5xx also support SIP in hosted service provider environments

CCA is the method to simplify installs and supports both, but not SIP.

Clearer?

Disconnect alert  :-)

7937G totally is configurable with CCA, using SCCP protocol ().  I just wanted to make that clear to you.

The SKU I gave you is how to order two additional MICs.  The base station itself has speakers and a MIC.  So its optional.

Here is a picture.  (attached)

I will say mainly because after working with other products I am more used to SIP than anything else, so for me to delve into anything else is new at least to me. I would like to explore that option but then again the phones I would like to use with the UC560 deployment are the 500 series IP phones that I think are SIP-based. Is there anything SCCP can do that cannot be accomplished with SIP?

I will appreciate if you can elaborate a little further on my options on a successful UC560 deployment with either SIP or SCCP. which phones are my best options for good integration and control for end users and and managers requiring expansion modules. I would expect the SPA 500 Series IP Phones to be purpose-built with full-features as a SIP-based handsets for the UC500 series which includes the UC560.

Today the only option we support with CCA is SCCP, and the majority of

deployments are IP-PBX mode with SCCP, which is why I replied as I did

and would be my recommendation.

The reason we started, and have deployed with SCCP is because from a

feature robustness perspective, it was always more robust than SIP,

but times have changed, and I am told call control is almost peer

now. In fact the new line of phones for full blown CM (89xx and 99xx)

are SIP only. The phones will show up on CME on ISR first (I don't

have a date but likely) and after that they may be considered for

UC500 support, and this is not roadmapped yet.

So today we have 79xx with SCCP and SPA5xx with a version of SCCP that

only runs on UC500. The SPA phones are the ones we use for managed

service / hosted PBX (softswitch in the cloud) since they can also run

SIP, if that is the delpoyment preferred.

You can get SIP phones to register with UC500, so don't get me wrong,

but then you own managing them, and that won't be fun if CCA doesn't

support them, since the Office Manager also won't support them, and

you will have TAC challenges on that mode as well.

Making more sense? I think you would be more successful on a UC500

with SCCP.

SCCP sounds good and I would like to look into it. Which SPA5xx version of SCCP are there? What are the SKUs? Where can I find them?

Thanx Steven for the info. I will certainly look into it and see what I can do with them. I am looking at setting up a UC500 series a UC520, 504G, 525G, and 500S equipment for a start? Any ideas where I can get them, they don;t have to be new.

Steve

These things are pretty pricey for a casual lab, it is very hard not to consider refurbished systems especially when even the cisco partner in the DC area does not know where to get NFR systems. I will very much appreciate if you can point me to specifically where I can get NFR pricing.

I also just got this book to get me going on this system, is this what I need or something else?; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1587202077/ref=oss_product

Thanx, I've sent her an email. I sure hope she can help. The "CCNA Voice" book I mentioned earlier, is that the right book to delve into the UC500 system?

Any networking books and Cisco certs make life easier, but I would

engage in the channel Partner Program and go for the Select

Certification / SMB specialization which is specifically for UC500.

Two tests; one for AM role and one for SE role (can be the same

person). In fact, you must have this to sell UC500.

Where do I go for more details on this and how to get started as well as resources that I need? And do you mean both certifications are needed or just the SE is good enough to deploy and support?

When Nicole gets back with you ask to have an ICAM (inside channel

account manager) assist you and direct you into the program.

If you need me to assist I am sdistef@cisco.com.

I am not on my pc now. But cisco.com has all the info and if you can't

find, I can refer you to the links that walk you through it all.

I write alot of Technical Enablement Labs for UC500 and you can search

this community for the key words 'technical enablement labs' and you

will find more than 2 dozen as well as many links I would refer

Partners to to learn small business products including UC500.

Thanks Steven,

I took and passed both the AM and SE exams w eek or so ago and now I already have a client with a 92 user UC560 to deploy. I was wondering which conference IP phones can be used here.
