IDS - Where to start??

Hey all,

I need to find out how to implement an IDS system into my network. What is the quickest way to learn IDS?

I know the difference between IDS and IPS, etc. But i dont know how to configure it at all..or what any of it means..

Can you help?

It depends on what IDS senor you have. I would suggest the config guides. Here is an example http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/6.1/configuration/guide/cli/cliguide.html

Note that the IDSes have intuitive management GUIs that are very useful, so I would recommend using the guide and the GUI next to it and it will not be very hard.
