Solved: Bridging 2 vlans together on 2960 Switch

I need to bridge 2 vlans together temporarily on a 2960 switch and am not sure how to do this or if it is possible. Here is my situation.

I have an access point (Non Cisco) that I need to migrate users to a new SSID. Unfortunately the AP does not support multiple SSID's so I have to assign my new SSID to a separate VLAN. I would like to avoid having to setup a temporary second subnet and simply bridge the 2 vlans together so they are on the same subnet.

Is there a way to configure a 2960 to bridge 2 vlans together so they are essentially on the same subnet?

Hello,

You can connect a cable between two vlans (ports on different vlans) and

extend the VLANs until the issue is resolved.

What are the IP addresses you are using? Extending the VLAN should not

affect the current operations. If extending the VLAN is not an option, then

probably, you need to go for a routed solution where you add a router to the

network and route traffic between VLAN 1 and VLAN 2. That way, you keep your

broadcast domains separate.

Good thought however when I connected the two ports I ran into an

issue with broadcasts from my PPPOE Server. I have 2 vlans on the switch VLAN 1 and VLAN 2. Vlan 1 is the intial VLAN and VLAN 2 is the temp VLAN I setup.

The problem is as soon as I connect the cable between the 2 VLANs all my broadcasts from my PPOE server stop getting my clients on VLAN 1 stop working and none of my clients can authenticate via PPOE from either VLAN 1 or VLAN 2.

I shut down one of the ports and PPPOE starts working again for VLAN 1.

Any thoughts one what could be causing this broadcast issue when I connect the VLAN's?

I do get the error

%CDP-4-NATIVE_VLAN_MISMATCH: Native VLAN mismatch discovered on FastEthernet0/6 (1), with Wireless-2960-VLT FastEthernet0/8 (2).

but I expected this since I am bridging 2 vlans.

What do you think?

Thanks everyone. Even though connecting the 2 vlans should have worked, for some reason it caused a strange broadcast loop and caused issues with my PPPOE broadcasts. I ended up taking one port, assigned it to VLAN2 and connected it to my Mikrotik PPPOE server and used that to route the 2nd VLAN and all seems to be working well. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
