Firmware upgrade an Active/Passive Pair of Firewalls

Answered Question
Aug 2nd, 2010

I have several sets of firewalls running active/standby that I want to upgrade from 8.0.5 to 8.2.2. According to the cisco docs to do this without downtime (which as they are running live web services is required) I need to go from the 8.0.x release to 8.1.x and then onto 8.2.x.

All well and good but there aren't any 8.1.x images available to download.

So can I go from 8.0 to 8.2 without downtime in between the upgrades? Or if not have you any suggestions on how I can do this.

I have this problem too.

you can go from 8.0x to 8.2x directly without any downtime. the same zero dowtime upgrade can be performed. the doc is

Hello,

8.1 code line is available only for 5580 platform. Since you are going from

8.0(5) to 8.2, you can follow the zero downtime upgrade procedure.

Thanks for that - should make getting the upgrade through our change process a bit easier.
