Re : FWSM failover Question

Hi,

My question is that I have a pair of FWSM that resides on a 6509 and when the primary went down the secondary was active.

When the primary came up, the secondary was still the active FW.

Here is the config for the primary and secondary part on the FWSM (IPs changed)  :-

failover

failover lan unit primary

failover lan interface Failover Vlan74

failover link State Vlan75

failover interface ip Failover 10.4.10.67 255.255.255.248 standby 10.4.10.68

failover interface ip State 10.4.7.74 255.255.255.248 standby 10.4.7.75

failover

failover lan unit secondary

failover lan interface Failover Vlan74

failover link State Vlan75

failover interface ip Failover 10.4.10.67 255.255.255.248 standby 10.4.10.68

failover interface ip State 10.4.7.74 255.255.255.248 standby 10.4.7.75

Is there a way to make the primary active when it comes back up ? Ie) Similar to using the 'preempt' command for HSRP.

Please advice,

Cheers,

Sanjay,

The 'failover preempt' command might help you here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/fwsm/fwsm40/command/reference/ef.html#wp1667787

It is only available in 3.2.x, 4.0.x. and 4.1.x.
