SGE2010P UDP Forward - Port 5353

I'm having trouble accessing Bonjour services across VLANs on my SGE2010P.

Firmware 3.0.0.18

I thought I might try the UDP forwarding feature on the SGE...

When I go to set it up:

Source IP: 255.255.255.255

Port: 5353 (I think this is Bonjour)

Destination IP: 255.255.255.255

When I go to apply these settings I get the error:

Udp port 5353 is busy.

  1. What exactly does this mean?
  2. How can I fix it?
  3. Is this even the right course of action to solve my problem (accessing Bonjour services across VLANs)

Actually apple put an interesting answer to your question;

I found that before when searching...

It doesn't really say much besides "if your switch supports it, turn it on...turn on IGMP filtering..."

Also some stuff about running a proxy...I shouldn't have to do that.

Anything else or should I just accept that it doesn't work?

I'm working with printers that run Bonjour.

Could someone that has a valid support contract submit this bug to Cisco so they can fix it?

Thanks.

This is also a problem for relaying port 123 for NTP.

Firmware: 3.0.2.0

Hi

I can see in the  admin guide  page 133  there is reference to UDP Relay.

You can try the page specific help text on the UDP relay section of the GUI,  to see how relevant UDP relay may be to your NTP issue.

But what are you really trying to achieve, are clients really trying to sync with a NTP server broadcast that is on another VLAN ?

Seems a shame you can't unicast the NTP request.

You can try UDP relay, which I would have though was good for netbios port forwarding, but the admin guide does mention port 123 (NTP) within the UDP relay section.

If the SGE2010P is still under phone support warranty, you still have the option to open a case with the good folk at Small Business Support Center (SBSC) and get their advice or a solution to the issues.

I do currently unicast the NTP but I should be able to relay ANY UDP port I want with this switch.

Instead, any port that the switch uses, you can not relay (port is busy).

I do not have any support left so I'm calling out to any one kind enough to submit this for me so maybe it can be fixed.

To recap:

Ports 123 & 5353 can NOT be relayed because the switch is using them and returns "port busy" error.
