VPN from iPhone and iPad to ASA's

Team,

Looking at the data sheets and the configuration documentations, I am not finding information as to whether and how we can support VPN connections from iPhones and iPads into an Cisco ASA.

Is this via ssl clients and what kind of support

Anyone have any information?  thanks.

Ipad as well as iphone can be supported via remote vpn. there is a default cisco ipsec client on the ipad that works well for remote access.

thanks

Please refer to the CCO link below.  The iPhone IPSec client has been tested to work with ASA 8.x code.  The iPad IPSec client should work, however, it has not been tested so we do not yet claim official support for it.

that link doesn't work.  is there a current one?

thanks

Please see the attached pdf

That was laughably unhelpful.  Thanks for a good chuckle though - nice to see the creation of an official .pdf document that's 3 pages long, when you could have responded with "Configure as you would any IPsec client." right in the post.

Feel free to click on the Feedback link at the bottom of the CCO doc in order to provide your ideas on how to improve the docs further.

I'll do you one better Mr. Snarky CCIE guy .  Jason's post has some really good stuff.

Especially the link to Apple's manual:

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Enterprise_Deployment_Guide.pdf

That manual is the first .pdf I've found that actually describes settings to some level of detail other than "it should work like any other IPsec client", describing:

  1. Authentication methods
  2. Authentication groups
  3. Certificates
  4. IPsec settings
  5. and some Misc stuff
