Just upgraded WCS from 5.2.130.0 to 7.0.164.0.

I go in to configure one of my new AP's. And now I cant even change its name because i am prompted that the attribute AP Group Name is mandatory, when I press Save:

AP Group Name : This attribute is MANDATORY. Please Specify it.

So my question is, what function has the AP Group Name attribute?

Can I just create a single general AP group, and set all AP's to use it?

Or should I make groups based on location or something else?

We have about 70 AP's (1010,1130 and 1140) spread over 9 different locations.

The AP group allows you to assign SSIDs and interfaces for the SSIDs to specific groups of APs

Yes

Or should I make groups based on location or something else?

If your happy with your current set up why bother?  We use AP groups to limit specific departmental SSIDs to certain areas.

i hadn't realised it was now manadatory, top of my head I'd guess the intention is to stop all your SSIDs being broadcast regardless as soon as you plug in a new lightweight AP.

hope this helps.
