Solved: connect two 3560 switches togather

Hi Experts

I have two 3560 switches which i would like to connect through GBIC ports

please let me know what commands required to config these ports lets assume connecting ports 28 togather

any help would be appreciated

Hello,

Yes, once you trunk, you can use VLAN 301 and 310 in the second switch. You

need to enable those vlans on the switch by assigning ports to those VLANs.

The trunk will not affect rest of the operations.

Hello,

If you are having a flat VLAN structure i.e. only VLAN 1 in the entire network (on both switches), then you can just connect those two ports normally and the switch will take care of the rest. If you have multiple vlans, then you need to configure trunk:

Interface gi 0/28

Switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

Switchport mode trunk

Exit

This will ensure that both switches communicate through all VLANs.

Hi

Let me just give some more on my network so it would not effect or impact

switch1 - ports 1 and 2 are uplink ports for data(301) and voice(310) vlans respectively coming from HP 3550 router

ports 3-23 are access ports

port 24 for switch management in default VLAN1

now te scenario is bring a new switch2 all ports will be access ports

as per your advise

attach the gig0/28 ports with fibre and config the port 28 with

Interface gi 0/28

Switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

Switchport mode trunk

Exit

now the vlans 301 and 310 will be available and can be used in switch2 as well ?

that trunk would not have any impact?
